O vinariji
The Luviji Winery, located in the town of Hvar on the island of Hvar, traces its roots back to the 1980s. In their old family house next to the cathedral, the Bracanović family offered homemade wine to tourists during the summer season. In a cozy courtyard, with tables made from old barrels, visitors enjoyed wine paired with prosciutto, cheese, and salted sardines. Few could have imagined that this spot would one day house a top-tier restaurant. The Bracanović family proudly continues their tradition. The restaurant is now run by son Roko and his wife Đurđa, along with daughters Perica and Antonija, while their mother Eta, who laid the foundation, has deservedly retired. The star of Luviji Winery is Pošip, which has won numerous awards, including the title of overall winner at the “4th Jelsa Summer Wine Tasting” for their 2021 Pošip. The uniqueness of this Pošip lies in the old vines discovered in Hvar’s vineyards, traditionally grafted to produce the finest quality the island can offer. In addition to Pošip, Luviji produces the white wine longo, a blend of the island’s indigenous varieties Zlatarica, Maraština, Tribijana, and Kurtelaška. Their vineyards stretch from Hvar to the village of Milna, covering three hectares, with an annual production of about 12,000 liters, all made exclusively from their own grapes. From Plavac Mali, they craft the red wine Divjok and a Rosé, while the barrique wine Pakleno enriches their selection. Their traditional Prošek stands out and has rightfully won the champion title at Zagreb’s Vinovita competition. Luviji Prošek 2016, an exquisite dessert nectar, is crafted by the Bracanović family using indigenous varieties such as Maraština, Trbljan, Kurtelaška, Smederevka, and Zlatarica. Roko Bracanović masterfully blends two harvests—first incorporating grapes from younger vines, followed by those from older vines, ensuring a complex flavor and aroma profile. The prošek matures on its lees in a barrel over a century old, acquiring a unique depth and richness that reflects the tradition and craftsmanship of the Luviji winery. Luviji Winery is not only a symbol of excellence but also a testament to family unity and dedication, embodying the true heart and soul of Hvar.
