Balić Winery

Balić Winery, with a 200-year-long tradition, is an integral part of the viticulture and olive growing history of the island of Šolta. Following in his father’s footsteps and a passion for vines, winemaker Karlo Balić decided to renew the vineyard, which at the time had 1,000 vines, about twenty years ago. With the help of subsidies from the Šolta Municipality, the family purchased the first seedlings and necessary equipment, starting the planting of grapevines and gradually restoring the cellar in the old family house. Today, they have 8,000 vines, including the indigenous Dobričić, Merlot, Babić, and Plavac Mali, with an annual production of around 3,000–4,000 liters of wine. Although they mainly focus on red varieties, the family has recently started experimenting with white varieties such as Pošip and Maraština. Their wines are available in three labels: Dobričić Barrique, a blend of Merlot, Dobričić, Plavac Mali, and Babić, and the white label made from Maraština. In their tasting room, the Balić family offers guided wine tours, allowing visitors to experience the Šoltan vineyards and the tradition of ecological production.
