Bibich Winery

Alen Bibić, owner and head winemaker of Bibich Winery, runs one of the most renowned family wineries in Croatia, located in Plastovo near Skradin. His family’s winemaking tradition dates back to the 15th century, and he belongs to the fifth generation of winemakers on both sides of his family. Despite the winery being completely devastated during the war, he gradually rebuilt it along with the vineyards, turning it into a respected brand. The first wine he produced was Debit, and although he was initially not satisfied with it, subsequent harvests revealed the full potential of the variety. Over time, he expanded the vineyards and assortment, planting not only Debit but also Lasina, Plavina, Babić, as well as international varieties such as Syrah, Merlot, and Sauvignon. A significant breakthrough came with R6 – a blend of Plavina, Babić, and Lasina, aged in American oak barriques. Among his most famous wines is Bibich Bas de Bas, a powerful red wine from the Bas de Bas vineyard, primarily made from Syrah with a touch of Merlot, aged for 24 months in French oak barrels. Another highly regarded wine, Bibich Aleph, is named after the novel by Jorge Luis Borges, symbolizing the connection between terroir and winemaking philosophy. It is a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and Cabernet Franc, grown in the Jezerine vineyards. In addition to its wines, the winery is well known for its wine tours, with the culinary experience curated by Alen’s wife, Vesna, one of the leading chefs in the region. The Bibić family operates as a harmonious unit, where everyone has a role—Alen and his son Filip, the sixth generation of winemakers, manage the vineyards and cellar; Karla is dedicated to hospitality, while Filip’s wife, Ljubica, strategically oversees the retail business. Today, Bibich wines are recognized and appreciated worldwide, available in markets from Sweden and Tokyo to distant Indonesia, further cementing the winery’s reputation as one of the most important in Croatia.
