Delmati Winery

The Delmati, an ancient people known for their fearlessness and resistance to Roman expansion, left a deep mark on history. With their perseverance and bravery, they resisted Roman power for a long time, and in honor of their defiance, this part of the Adriatic is now called Dalmatia. Inspired by this legacy, as well as a spirit of dedication and passion, Winery Delmati proudly bears their name. The vineyards span over 200 hectares in the largest Dalmatian wine region, the karst field Jezero, where the rich viticultural heritage of the area is carefully preserved. The oldest vineyard plots are over 60 years old, and to maintain the unique characteristics of different micro-locations, the vineyards are divided into smaller sections. In addition to Jezero, the winemaking story has expanded to the steep slopes of the Komarna wine region, Croatia’s youngest wine-growing area, where 8 new hectares of vineyards have been planted. Indigenous Dalmatian grape varieties, such as Pošip, Plavac Mali, and Babić, thrive in these locations, showcasing the diversity of the Dalmatian terroir. From the limestone slopes of Komarna, under the strong influence of the Adriatic Sea, to the sandy-clay soil of the karst field Jezero, each Delmati wine reflects the uniqueness of its origin. Jezero, the largest wine-growing area in Croatia, is a green oasis of Dalmatian karst, sheltered by mountains and hills, with its southernmost point just five kilometers from the Adriatic coast. The Matica River gently winds through the vineyards, providing access to clear underground water sources rich in endemic wildlife. The soil is a combination of clay and sand with a firm limestone base, creating ideal conditions for vine cultivation. In Jezero, vineyard ages range from 30 to 60 years, with predominant grape varieties including Trbljen, Trebbiano Toscano, Plavka, and Trnjak, alongside Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot. On the steep slopes of Komarna, the vineyards are dedicated to Pošip, Plavac Mali, and Babić, indigenous varieties that thrive in this terroir. Winery Delmati proudly presents six wine labels: “Latinica”, a wine made from Trebbiano Toscano; “Romanca”, a wine from Plavka; “Plavka 2021”; “Kompozicija”, a blend of Plavka, Merlot, and Vranac; “Pošip 2020”; and “Plavac Mali 2019”. For a complete Delmati wine experience, the winery’s tasting room is located in Dubrovnik, offering a perfect blend of premium wines and authentic Dalmatian tradition.
