Grabovac Winery

Grabovac Winery, located in the Imotski wine region, has nurtured a tradition spanning over two centuries. The family’s winemaking journey began in 1812, when Stipan Grabovac received a license to produce and sell wine, marking the start of a rich family legacy. In 1994, the Grabovac family bottled their first commercial wines, becoming pioneers of modern Croatian winemaking. Today, brothers Milan and Nikola Grabovac, together with their cousin Mislav Maršić, continue the family tradition inherited from their father, Ante Grabovac, who laid the foundations of the modern winery. With a new vineyard in Čanjevice, covering 12.5 hectares, the family now cultivates a total of 25 hectares, making them one of the leading wine producers in Dalmatia. Nearly 65,000 vines are planted here, with a special focus on native varieties like Kujundžuša and Trnjak, developed through a clonal selection project in cooperation with the Faculty of Agriculture at the University of Zagreb. The vineyards thrive in exceptional locations – from Čanjevice at 280 meters above sea level to Vučja Draga at 400-450 meters, offering breathtaking views of the Imotski Field. The soil, rich in red earth and gravel, imparts a distinctive minerality and character to the wines. While the winery proudly preserves native varieties such as Kujundžuša, Trnjak, Pošip, Žilavka, and Vranac, international grapes like Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Syrah, Chardonnay, and Sauvignon Blanc also thrive in Grabovac’s vineyards. These varieties create unique wines, often blended with local grapes, producing premium wines with great aging potential. The winery currently offers over 16 labels, including six white wines, two sparkling wines, one dessert wine, and a variety of red wines. Among their most notable labels is Draga Riserva, considered not only the finest white wine from Grabovac Winery but also one of the best white cuvées in Croatia. This rare and unique blend brings together five varieties – Viognier, Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay, Žilavka, and Pošip – sourced from the prized Vučja Draga vineyard near Imotski. Another standout label is Modro Jezero, named after the natural wonder of the Imotski region. This Dalmatian take on the Bordeaux blend combines native and international varieties – Cabernet Sauvignon, Vranac, Merlot, and Trnjak – creating a rich, complex red wine that reflects the character of the region. Both labels represent the pinnacle of Grabovac Winery’s craftsmanship, highlighting their commitment to excellence and innovation in winemaking. Their wines regularly win awards at national and international competitions, reaffirming the Grabovac family’s dedication to authenticity and outstanding quality.
