Huljić Winery

The Huljić family, with a winemaking tradition spanning six generations, blends modernity and tradition under the leadership of Teo Huljić. Teo continues the family legacy through his wine bar and restaurant, creating a unique sensory experience. The wines are produced in a family house over 200 years old, where Teo, following in the footsteps of his father Dinko, one of Hvar’s most renowned winemakers, developed his own wine cellar. After completing his education, Teo purchased a vineyard in St. Luke’s Bay near Jelsa, modernized the cellar, and began independent wine production in 1993. He refined his expertise by working in other wineries and renowned restaurants, and in 2003, he opened a restaurant, enriching the family business with new offerings. In their vineyards, the family grows indigenous varieties such as Bogdanuša, Parč, Plavac Mali, and the rare Mekuja and Palaruša. Mekuja, one of Hvar’s most endangered varieties, has been revived through Teo’s dedication.
Their portfolio features nine labels, including six white wines:
“Maestral” – a blend of Parč, Bogdanuša, Pošip, and Maraškino, inspired by the refreshing summer wind maestral.
“Kap sunca” – a blend of 70% Bogdanuša and 30% Parč, sourced exclusively from a vineyard in St. Luke’s Bay.
“Pošip” – a varietal wine made from Pošip.
“Mekuja” – an exclusive wine from the rare Mekuja variety, with only 400 bottles produced annually, available exclusively in the Huljić wine bar.
“Palaruša” – a wine from the Palaruša variety, with an annual production of just 100 bottles, also exclusive to the wine bar.
“One” – a blend of Chardonnay, White Muscat, Parč, and Pošip.
Three red labels include:
“Global” – a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and Plavac Mali from vineyards on Hvar’s northern slopes.
“Plamen” – a wine made from Plavac Mali grown on Hvar’s southern slopes in the areas of Marinovica and Medvid Bad.
“Huljić Rosé” – a rosé from Plavac Mali, traditionally made, with cold fermentation at 17°C.
Wine tastings are held in the old family cellar, designed in a rustic Dalmatian style. Visitors can enjoy customized tastings and discover wines that revive Hvar’s indigenous grape varieties and heritage.
