Kairos Winery

Kairos Winery is located above Trogir, a town that preserves one of the most famous ancient depictions of the god Kairos – a symbol of a fortunate moment and an opportunity that must be seized. This is precisely how the Jelavić family’s wine story began when the accidental purchase of 12 hectares of neglected land in the Babe area led to the decision to plant a vineyard. Despite having no prior experience or family tradition in winemaking, through great effort, investment, and expert guidance from winemaker Ante Grabovac and Dr. Goran Zdunić from the Institute for Adriatic Crops, the renowned “Kairos Wines” brand was created. The vineyard is primarily planted with indigenous Croatian grape varieties, such as Kaštelanski Crljenak and Plavac Mali, while one-third consists of international varieties. The winery’s selection includes labels such as Rose 2016, made from Plavac Mali; Cuvée 2013 (Plavac Mali, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Syrah, Tempranillo); and Crljenak 2015. The winery’s oenologist, Nikša Zglav, contributes to producing wines that embody the power of Dalmatia’s native grape varieties. In addition to the vineyard, the Jelavić family has opened the “Zeru” wine bar in the center of Split, where wines are expertly paired with carefully curated bites. Future plans include following modern viticulture trends and constructing a dedicated winery. Kairos wines can be tasted by appointment at the vineyard or enjoyed at the Zeru wine bar.
