Karaba Winery

Karaba Winery is located in Pakoštane, a picturesque village by Lake Vrana. Established in 2000, this modern stone winery, inspired by the historic architecture of the region, reopened in a new, refined form in 2022. Owner Šime Kurtov proudly presents this elegant winery, whose name originates from an old family nickname. From the covered terrace, guests can enjoy a spectacular view of Lake Vrana, which changes colors and reflections throughout the day, creating a magical backdrop for various events – from intimate weddings to exclusive corporate gatherings. The prestige of the winery was confirmed at its very first organized event when it hosted the President of the Republic of Croatia, setting high standards for future celebrations. Karaba Winery offers a spacious tasting room accommodating up to 120 guests indoors and an additional 70 on the terrace. The vineyards span carefully selected locations around Lake Vrana – Crkvina, Koševića, and Babilon – covering a total of 3.9 hectares, with an additional hectare of purchased grapes. Each location contributes unique characteristics to the wines: the red soil and stone at Crkvina and Koševića are ideal for white varieties, while the rocky terrain of Babilon, surrounded by Mediterranean maquis, provides excellent conditions for red wines. The quality of the wines is further ensured by renowned Zadar enologist Marina Pavlović, who has been behind many award-winning wines of the region. In addition to its viticultural significance, the Crkvina vineyard also holds archaeological value, further enriching the story of Karaba Winery. The wine selection boasts expressive character – the Debit from 2023 is distinguished by its freshness and light aromatic profile, while the Maraština and Pošip from the same vintage offer recognizable notes of yellow fruit aromas. Pošip and Maraština from 2021 hold a special status, aged for a year in Croatian oak barrique barrels, delivering richness and complexity. Red wine lovers can enjoy the Plavac Mali from 2021, which embodies the characteristic strength and depth of the variety. Meanwhile, Templar wine from the same vintage presents a unique blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and Syrah (90%), with a touch of Tribidrag and Plavina (10%), providing the complexity and depth typical of Karaba’s finest wines.
