Korta Katarina Winery, located in Orebić, was founded in 2005 at the initiative of American entrepreneur Lee Reuben Anderson, owner of APi Group—one of the top 400 largest privately owned American companies, according to Forbes. Together with his wife Penny, Anderson, a great enthusiast of Croatian wines, decided to establish a winery dedicated to producing premium wines from indigenous Croatian grape varieties such as Plavac Mali and Pošip. Their connection to Croatia began during the Homeland War, when they supported humanitarian projects in the region. After the war, they visited the country and, captivated by its natural beauty, were inspired to create something meaningful and lasting—a winery in the heart of the Pelješac Peninsula. The name “Korta Katarina” blends local heritage and family tradition. “Korta” refers to the traditional walled captain’s villas typical of Orebić, while “Katarina” (English: Katharine) is a cherished family name passed down through generations, including their daughter. The winery cultivates Plavac Mali on the renowned Dingač and Postup slopes of Pelješac, and Pošip in the Čara region on the island of Korčula. The wines are aged in carefully selected, top-quality French oak barriques, which add to the complexity and unique character of Korta Katarina wines. Today, the winery offers ten wine labels, including red, white, and rosé wines. Recently, they have expanded their portfolio with their first sparkling wine made from the Rukatac grape variety.
