Marinac Winery, a small family-owned winery from the picturesque island of Šolta, has been nurturing the tradition of producing premium olive oil and wine for generations. Their market presence is marked by three labels: Marinac Pošip, Marinac Rose, made from the indigenous Dobričić variety, and Marinac Dobričić. Dobričić is an ancient red wine variety, native to the island of Šolta, and one of the most significant indigenous red varieties of Dalmatia. It was Dobričić, crossed with Crljenak Kaštelanski (known as Zinfandel in the rest of the world), that gave rise to Croatia’s most famous variety – Plavac Mali. In the Marinac family vineyards, in addition to Dobričić vines, Pošip and Plavac Mali vines are also cultivated, totaling 6,500 plants. Annual wine production amounts to approximately 5,000 bottles and 2,000 liters of open wine, while about 200 liters of olive oil are produced each year. The uniqueness of Marinac family products lies in their dedication to every detail of the production process. They place great importance on sustainability and environmental preservation, using eco-friendly packaging and striving to minimize waste and their ecological footprint.

Tomislav Purtić

Around twenty years ago, Tomislav Purtić decided to revitalize the indigenous Dobričić grape variety in his grandfather’s old vineyard, which then comprised 700 vines. This vineyard became a crucial source of planting material for the restoration of the variety on the island and was registered with the Institute for Adriatic Crops and Karst Reclamation. This marked the beginning of planting an additional 1,000 vines, giving rise to the present-day Marinac Winery. The winery’s name originates from his grandfather’s nickname, Marin, preserving the memory of his roots and tradition.
