MI Winery

Winery MI has been operating since 2007, named after the initials of its founders, Maja (M) and Igor (I). Their wine journey began in 2006 when they each produced their first wines from the babić variety, branded as Maja and Dok (after Igor’s surname, Dokić). Recognizing the similarity in their wine styles, they decided to join forces and continue production together. In 2010, Maja and her husband Vojo completed the construction of a wine cellar, which became the central place for processing and aging all wines created by Maja and Igor. Later, a modern tasting room with a climate-controlled bottle-aging space was added to the same location. In 2018, enologist, winemaker, and professor at the University of Zagreb, Dr. Leo Gracin, invited them to participate in a blind tasting of Babić wines produced in Šibenik-Knin County, a region renowned for its exceptional terroir for this variety. Inspired by this experience, they officially founded Winery MI j.d.o.o. the following year, headquartered in Rogoznica. To expand their range, in 2019, Igor built a storage facility for processing other varieties, such as Merlot and Plavac Mali, used to create Babić-based cuvée wines. Over the years, wine production steadily increased from the initial few hundred bottles to today’s 5,000 bottles annually. Their wines quickly gained recognition—Babić MI 2016 won first place, while Babić MI 2017 secured second place in the Babić wine category, and their cuvée Terca 2017 was ranked among the best Babić-based cuvées. The winery offers four wine labels: Babić Forma – a selection of premium Babić wines, made from grapes sourced from vineyards in Kruševo, Bratski Dolac, and Široke ; Terca – an elegant Dalmatian interpretation of Bordeaux-style cuvée wines, blending Babić and Plavac Mali ; Babić – the winery’s pride, an award-winning wine that reflects the authenticity of the variety ; Gospelino – a dessert wine inspired by Portuguese Port, where fermented Babić is enriched with grape juice, increasing the alcohol content to 20%.
