Prović Winery

Provic Winery, located in Opuzen in the heart of the Neretva Delta, is a family-run business that combines winemaking tradition with hospitality through the boutique Hotel Merlot. Founded in 1997 by Branko and Mirko Prović, it was a pioneer in planting Chardonnay in southern Croatia. Today, the winery is led by Branko’s children—Monika, responsible for PR, marketing, and wine distribution, and Vjekoslav, who assists in the cellar and manages the hotel. The vineyards, situated just two kilometers from the mouth of the Mala Neretva River, thrive on fertile, sun-soaked soil ideal for growing Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Yellow Muscat, and Chardonnay. Although the family has been producing wine since the 1980s, their first private vineyard was planted in 2002, with the most recent addition, Yellow Muscat, in 2014. Cabernet Sauvignon has a long history in the region, dating back to the days of the Agricultural-Industrial Complex Neretva. Chardonnay, on the other hand, started as an experiment inspired by the story of Miljenko Grgić and the famous 1976 blind tasting in France. Its exceptional results led to its official recommendation for cultivation in Neretva. Provic Winery offers eight wine labels:
– MC – Bordeaux blend of Merlot (65%) and Cabernet Sauvignon (35%)
– Modrič – MC Reserva with the same varietal ratio
– Chardonnay – an elegant white classic
– Livija – made from the indigenous Zlatarica variety
– Teuta – a rosé from Syrah grapes
– Naron sur lie – a special edition Chardonnay, limited to 900 bottles
– Pagan Reserva – a dry wine from dried grapes (Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Plavac Mali)
– Agron Trnjak 2021 – a premium wine from the native Trnjak variety.
Over the years, their wines have received numerous awards, with Pagan Reserva and Agron Trnjak proudly earning silver medals at the prestigious Decanter competition in 2024.
