Tonči Marijan Winery

Tonči Marijan, a renowned winemaker from the island of Hvar, returned to his native island in 2008 after a successful career at Dalmacijavino and Badel 1862 to start his own winery. Located in the picturesque village of Pitve, atop a hill with breathtaking views of vineyards and the sea, Tonči Marijan’s winery exudes authenticity and passion for wine. His vineyards are situated in the microlocation of Crna Punta (Vron Bod) near Zavala, where twenty-year-old vines of Plavac Mali produce exceptional results. With the 2012 vintage of his wine Vron Brod, Tonči achieved a historic success, winning gold at the Decanter World Wine Awards in 2019 with a score of 96/100, becoming the first in Croatia and the world to achieve this with this indigenous variety. In addition to Plavac Mali, the vineyards in Pitve, located on terraced sandy terrains, yield varieties such as Pošip, Bogdanuša, Muškat Žuti, and Prč. New additions include a wine made from Grk and a white blend of Pošip, Prč, Bogdanuša, and Muškat Žuti. In the red wine segment, Tonči has expanded production to include Cabernet Sauvignon and Syrah, available as single varietals. The winery also captivates attention with its unique labels. Thanks to laser engraving technology at 1000 °C, the labels are permanently etched into the glass, making them the first of their kind in Croatia. Producing between 17,000 and 20,000 liters of wine annually, with a range of ten labels, the winery offers visitors a memorable experience. During wine tastings, guests can enjoy his wines paired with authentic Dalmatian delicacies, lovingly prepared by Tonči, whose passion for cooking rivals his love of winemaking.
