Volarević Winery

Winery Volarević is located in the heart of Komarna, the youngest wine-growing region in Croatia, on the southern Dalmatian coast. The vineyard, spanning 15 hectares (12 ha under vines), is a story of dedication and passion for wine that began in 2005. Through land reclamation of the rocky terrain, ideal conditions were created for vine cultivation, and the specific terroir of Komarna has proven perfect for indigenous varieties such as Plavac Mali, Tribidrag (Crljenak), Pošip, and Maraština. This charming coastal location, situated 70 km northwest of Dubrovnik, has become a renowned wine micro-location. The vineyard is south-facing and benefits from triple sun exposure – sun-vine, sun-rock-vine, sun-sea-vine. Due to extreme weather conditions and high temperatures, an irrigation system was introduced to provide optimal growing conditions. The winery’s story began with the passion and vision of a father Rade Volarević and his four sons, who had already achieved success with Croatia’s leading Prud Nursery. Their dedication quickly established the winery among the most renowned in the country, with wines successfully reaching international markets, including the USA, Singapore, Switzerland, Belgium, Montenegro, and Bosnia and Herzegovina. The winery in Metković covers more than 600 m², featuring a state-of-the-art cellar, a multifunctional space for presentations and workshops, a tasting room, and a Wine Shop offering the complete range of their wines. Key vineyard processes, such as pruning, tying, and thinning of grape clusters, are carried out manually, while grape ripening is carefully monitored by family enologist Josip Volarević to ensure the perfect harvest moment.
