About winery

Vujnović Winery is located in Sućuraj on the island of Hvar and operates as part of a family-run hospitality establishment. The Vujnović family has cultivated a tradition of viticulture and winemaking since the 18th century, with historical documents attesting to their rich heritage. The winery itself is housed in a building where their ancestors lived as far back as the 15th century. The family’s vineyards span various locations across Hvar, with the most prominent being the prestigious Ivan Dolac site on the island’s southern side. The vineyards at Ivan Dolac are cultivated exclusively with organic fertilizers, and crop protection is limited to traditional methods like Bordeaux mixture. Situated on steep slopes with gradients of up to 40% and elevations reaching 350 meters, the vineyards benefit from unique triple sunlight exposure—direct sunlight, reflection from the sea, and the nearby mountains—yielding grapes of exceptional quality. In addition to Ivan Dolac, the vineyards extend to other locations such as Dračev Dolac, Kruševica, and Sućuraj. These areas are pristine ecological zones, free from industrial activity, artificial fertilizers, and synthetic pesticides. The vines are cultivated manually, and the wine is produced using traditional methods. Since 2012, the family has also been managing a new 4-hectare vineyard located between Sućuraj and Bogomolje, home to 24,000 vines of indigenous varieties like Prč, Pošip, and Plavac Mali. The winery offers five labels on the market, with the most renowned being the premium Plavac Mali from the Ivan Dolac site, which lends its name to the label. In addition to wine production, the winery also crafts natural liqueurs, enriching its offering with products that reflect a perfect blend of tradition, quality, and a passion for viticulture.
