About winery
On 5.2 hectares of vineyards, the Correctional Institution in Lepoglava cultivates 25,000 grapevines. Within its viticulture and winemaking workshop, they grow 11 grape varieties: Graševina, Riesling, Moslavac, Silvaner, Sauvignon, Traminer, Pinot Blanc, Pinot Gris, Muscat Blanc, Pinot Noir, and Cabernet Sauvignon. A distinctive product is the Pavlinsko vino (Pauline Wine), a blend dominated by Graševina, with the addition of Moslavac, Silvaner, and Pinot Blanc — a tribute to the Pauline heritage of Lepoglava. The winery’s wines can be tasted at the Ivančica hospitality facility, while the majority are sold within the correctional facility itself. With an annual production of around 12,000 bottles, the winery offers a unique tasting and sales experience. All wines have a protected designation of origin with controlled geographical origin, and international recognition soon followed. The first medal at the Decanter World Wine Awards came in 2021 — a bronze for Graševina, scoring 88 points. In 2022, bronze medals were awarded to Graševina, Riesling, and Pinot Gris, while in 2023, Graševina and Silvaner received bronze medals. Varaždin County played a key role in the Decanter success by initiating and financing the wine submissions. The agricultural workshop is led by agronomist Stjepan Biškup, and the head of the Correctional Institution is Dražen Posavec.
