Košćak Winery

Košćak Winery, led by enologist Luka Košćak, is one of the younger wineries in Varaždin County, though the family’s winemaking tradition spans over twenty years. The first vineyards were planted on the site of a nearly century-old family-owned vineyard in the Kotari wine-growing area. Today, the winery cultivates just over one hectare of its own vineyards and collaborates with growers who maintain an additional two hectares. Annual wine production reaches 300 hectoliters. The winery’s philosophy is rooted in healthy grapes and the production of aromatically clean wines, marked by distinct primary aromas and a harmonious taste. Košćak wines have received numerous national awards, and in 2023 the winery achieved international success at the Decanter World Wine Awards in London. Their 2019 Sauvignon Blanc earned a silver medal with 92 points, making it officially the best-rated Sauvignon in Croatia. A bronze medal was also awarded for the 2017 Riesling, and a commendation for the 2018 Cabernet Franc. In 2023, the winery invested in the purchase and renovation of the cellar once owned by the Češljaš family, also known for their Varaždinbreg restaurant. By preserving tradition and embracing new technology, Košćak aims to increase production and focus more on organic grape cultivation, believing that healthier farming is the future of winemaking.
