About winery

Kota Winery, located in Gornja Batina near Zlatar in the wine region of Uplands Croatia (Bregovita Hrvatska), is a small boutique winery that creates premium sparkling wines and still wines out of pure love for winemaking. On just two hectares of vineyards planted with Sauvignon Blanc and Chardonnay, the winery produces around 10,000 bottles annually. Owner Tihomir Kota, a mechanical engineer by profession, crafted his first wine in 2010, planted his first vineyard in 2013, and established the winery in 2017. Each wine label features a number that marks the altitude of the vineyard from which the grapes were harvested—”kota” meaning “elevation” on topographic maps. The sparkling wines are made using the traditional method of secondary fermentation in the bottle, while the still wines undergo malolactic fermentation and age on the lees (sur lie method), giving them creaminess and complexity. The winery offers four sparkling labels: Kota 267 (Chardonnay), Kota 255 (Chardonnay and Riesling), Kota 325 (Chardonnay and Sauvignon Blanc), and Kota 260 (Pinot Noir). The still wine Kota 267, made from Chardonnay using the sur lie method, stands out with its refined aroma and full flavor.
