Petrovečki Winery

The Petrovečki Vineyards are located in the heart of Hrvatsko Zagorje, on a picturesque hill in Mirkovec, near Sveti Križ Začretje. Situated at an altitude of 260 meters and facing west and southwest, they offer panoramic views of all four directions of Zagorje. The vineyards were first planted in 1995 by Željko Petrovečki – Žac, who, by uniting around 100 parcels over the years, planted more than 60,000 grapevines. Today, “Vina Petrovečki” produces high-quality and premium wines, as well as traditional fruit brandies and liqueurs. Their assortment includes six wine labels, featuring varieties such as Graševina, Riesling, Green Silvaner, Yellow Muscat, Chardonnay, Šipon (Furmint), Pinot Blanc, Pinot Gris, Pinot Noir, and Cabernet Sauvignon. In 2018, following the retirement of the founder, the family business was taken over by his son, Tomislav Petrovečki, who continues the tradition while introducing new ideas and projects. The vineyard is currently being restructured to include indigenous Zagorje grape varieties: Starohrvatska Belina and Svetokriška Belina. Svetokriška Belina, though rare, is a highly valued variety believed to have originated from the crossbreeding of Starohrvatska Belina and the Romanian variety Alba Imputotato. Today, it can only be found in the oldest vineyards in the Sveti Križ Začretje area. The Petrovečki family plans to soon offer an authentic enological experience at their tasting room on the Petrovečki hill, further enriching the eno-gastronomic offerings of Hrvatsko Zagorje.
