Degrassi Winery

Although the Degrassi family has a long tradition in viticulture and winemaking, the official start of Moreno’s winery dates back to 1996. That year, he took over the vineyards from a local cooperative and by the next year, offered wine lovers 50,000 bottles of premium wine. The winery is located in the small Istrian village of Bašanija, near the town of Umag.
Today, the vineyards span 21 hectares, distributed across four distinctive locations: San Pellegrini, Ferné, Bomarchese, and Contarini. These locations host 16 different grape varieties, and the winery produces over forty wine labels, recognizable by the rhombus symbol which represents the four vineyard sites. The current annual production ranges between 70,000 and 80,000 bottles.
For years, Moreno Degrassi has been a significant figure in the wine history of Istria and Croatia, paving the way for new generations of winemakers with his visionary approach. By experimenting with two types of Istrian soils, Terre Bianche and Terre Rosse, he discovered which varieties thrive best in specific soils, thereby facilitating the choices for others.
Cuvée wines are Degrassi’s passion. He was one of the first in Croatia to start producing cuvée wines. Continuously finding inspiration and challenge in combining various varieties, locations, and vintages, Moreno Degrassi consistently surprises and delights his numerous admirers.
