Castle Belaj is nestled in the picturesque landscape of Mount Učka. This beautiful estate comprises a castle founded by the noble Barbo family in 1575, two annexes built in the 19th century, and an impressive vineyard. Today, Castle Belaj estate is home to two wineries – Castle Belaj and Podrum Belaj. Castle Belaj Winery was established in 2011 by the Belaj family, and the wine is exclusively produced from grapes grown in the historic vineyard surrounding the castle. Since 2016, production has been fully returned to the castle cellars, paying homage to the place where the art of winemaking has flourished alongside the castle for five centuries. Additionally, the estate houses Podrum Belaj winery, founded by the Ivić family in 1998. Castle Belaj is one of the few that meets all the criteria to be called a château, meaning wine production is exclusively from grapes grown in the historic vineyard surrounding the castle, and the wine processing and aging take place on the estate itself.
In its offer, Castle Belaj provides a wide selection of indigenous grape varieties such as Istrian Mlvasia and Teran, as well as internationally renowned varieties such as Chardonnay, Merlot, and Pinot Noir.
