About winery
The Katunar Winery continues the family tradition of viticulture and winemaking and is located in Vrbnik on the island of Krk. During the 1990s, amid the flourishing of winemaking, Katunar invested in new technologies, blending traditional island viticulture methods with modern practices. It was among the first in Croatia to introduce controlled cold fermentation and acquire new Slavonian oak barrels and the only one to master the production of sparkling wines using the Charmat method.
After the successful production of Croatia’s only sparkling wine, the winery shifted its focus to planting new vineyards on the historic wine-growing location of Supele, near Baška on Krk. The Katunar Winery bases its production on its own grapes, with over 200,000 vines located in the Vrbnik Field and the Baška Basin. The vineyards grow various indigenous Krk varieties such as Žlahtina, Kamenina, Debejan, and Sansigot, along with international varieties like Chardonnay and Merlot.
The winery is situated on the edge of the Vrbnik Field, where grape processing, wine production, aging, and bottling take place. Katunar Winery strives to enhance quality by turning to controlled ecological grape production, focusing on indigenous grape varieties, and nurturing traditional viticulture.
