About winery

Bartolović Winery is built on a long family tradition of vine growing and winemaking. It is located in the heart of the Golden Valley, in the medieval town of Požega, while its vineyards span 18 hectares in the Kutjevo wine region, within Papuk Nature Park. The vineyards are situated at an altitude of 320 to 400 meters, with rocky-sandy soil and a southern exposure. Natural protection from winds, along with surrounding streams and forests, reduces the need for protective treatments. The winery cultivates ten grape varieties—50% white and 50% red. The most dominant white variety is Graševina, accompanied by Sauvignon Blanc, Pinot Gris, Chardonnay, and Riesling. The red varieties include Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah, Merlot, Pinot Noir, and Zweigelt. The winery produces around 100,000 liters of wine annually, including both varietal wines and blends. White wines are aged in stainless steel tanks, while red wines mature in oak barrels from different producers. They are particularly known for their Graševina Kaptol, while Kaptol Crni has become synonymous with the winery. Great attention is given to quality and innovation. Their selection also includes two late harvest wines from 2013—Riesling and Shiraz. The Riesling had 140 Oechsle sugar content at harvest, while the Shiraz reached 135 Oechsle. The fermentation of Shiraz lasted six months, followed by aging in Slavonian oak barriques. A unique feature of this Shiraz, besides its orange hue, is its exceptionally high alcohol content of 18%, which enologist Krunoslav Bartolović refers to as an “extreme” or “hard-core” Shiraz. The winery also features a tasting room, and nearby is Slavonska Kuća, an authentically decorated venue for hospitality and tourist groups, providing a full experience of top-quality wines from the heart of Slavonia.
