About winery

Ilija Zdravko Jakobović laid the foundation for the exceptional wines of the Jakobović family winery. On seven hectares of vineyards above Brodski Stupnik, classic Bordeaux varieties—cabernet sauvignon, cabernet franc, and merlot—are cultivated alongside syrah from the Rhône Valley. The carefully maintained vineyards face southeast, south, and southwest, while the vines draw minerals from a rich mixture of limestone, clay, loam, and sand. The winemaking process prioritizes quality—yields are reduced to one kilogram per vine, grapes are harvested at peak ripeness, then quickly cooled and transported to the boutique winery in Zagreb’s Šestine district. A skilled team oversees vinification, and the wine matures in carefully selected Slavonian and French oak barrels, with one-third renewed annually. After aging in oak for one year, the wine is bottled and left to rest for another year before release. The winery’s flagship wine is Cuvee Jakob, a terroir-driven blend that embodies the character of its vineyards and the people who craft it. Jakob wines are known for their longevity—vintages from 2009 and 2013 are only now reaching their full potential. Enologist Ivona Jeličić considers Cuvee Jakob 2009 the winery’s “ultimate wine,” while the 2012 and 2013 vintages display remarkable concentration and freshness. Jakobović Winery offers six wine labels: Jakob Mati, a sparkling wine from chardonnay and syrah; Jakob Syrah; Jakob Cuvee, a blend of cabernet sauvignon, merlot, and cabernet franc; Jakob Cuvee Blue Label, cabernet sauvignon with a small percentage of merlot and cabernet franc, aged in Slavonian oak; and Jakob Pave, an elegant rosé sparkling wine crafted using the Charmat method. The winery also features an exclusive tasting room, where wine enthusiasts can experience the richness of the terroir and the tradition behind Jakobović wines.
