Kutjevo Winery

Kutjevo, the oldest Croatian winery, boasts a tradition spanning nearly eight centuries, with its premium wines embodying the unique terroir of the Golden Požega Valley – Valis Aurea. The story began in 1232, while tourist guides highlight the winery’s rich history, including the construction of a Baroque palace on the remains of the Cistercian abbey Vallis Honesta de Gotho in the 18th century and the estate’s peak during the Turković family era. A legend from 1741 tells of Empress Maria Theresa and Baron Franjo Trenk, who, in a moment of passion ignited by the powers of wine, left their mark on a stone table in the Kutjevo cellar. Today, Kutjevo preserves Croatia’s most extensive wine archive, holding 74,000 archival bottles. In recent years, numerous innovations have been introduced, including the “Trezor 1232” wine vault, designed for aging premium labels from the De Gotho, Maximo, and Koria collections, featuring Graševina, Pinot Noir, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Traminer, and Cabernet Franc. The vineyards are situated on the southern slopes of Papuk, where sun exposure and constant airflow enable the cultivation of high-quality grapes. Four prestigious vineyard sites – Vetovo, Hrnjevac, Vinkomir, and Koria – ensure top yields for over 30 wine labels. The winery offers ten wine lines, including archival and predicate wines, the Koria, De Gotho, and Maximo collections, the Rose Premium line, premium Kutjevo wines, Graševina, and Đakovo wines. Kutjevo is now one of Croatia’s most significant wine centers. The winery also houses the Slavonska Kuća Vinkomir restaurant, located in the Vinkomir vineyard, blending rustic charm with modern architecture. Surrounded by vineyards, the restaurant offers a fusion of traditional Slavonian cuisine and premium wines, creatively transforming old recipes into culinary masterpieces.
