About winery

Markota Winery, located in the heart of the “Golden Valley” in Pleternica, combines tradition with innovation since 2006. The Markota family lovingly and dedicatedly tends vineyards on prestigious locations Starac and Klikun, spanning 34 hectares. The winery is a proud guardian of the centuries-old winemaking tradition of the Pleternica region, and from its cellars, 9 different wine labels are produced. White wines are made with classic controlled fermentation, using hand-harvested grapes with a maximum of 2 kg per vine, giving the wines outstanding fullness and minerality. The wines are fruity, with floral notes, warm, rounded, and balanced textures, with a pronounced freshness. Red wines are aged in oak barrels (50% in barrique, 50% in larger barrels), with a minimum aging period of two years. The winery offers 12 labels, including 6 white single varieties, three blends, one rosé, and two red labels. Some wines bear the name “Crna svinja” (Black Pig), inspired by the popular local animal, whose processed products are increasingly found on menus. Over the years, the wines have won numerous prestigious awards, and recently, the Cuvee Crna svinja label won a silver medal at the Decanter awards.
